Congratulations Rachel Baker

Congratulations are in order for yet another of our own. Portfolio Manager Rachel Baker has been added to the tidy list of Nuffield New Zealand Farming Scholars within the MyFarm Investments team.

This award is well deserved, with Rachel holding experience in an expanse of professional rural industries over the years. Currently responsible for managing multiple properties partnered with premium New Zealand apple brand Rockit, Rachel manages a portfolio of assets within the Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand.

Rachel has been very busy managing MyFarm’s cyclone response on affected Hawkes Bay and Gisborne properties. She will maintain her role in 2024 whilst also travelling overseas on her scholarship, exploring the impact, challenges, and opportunities of existing and proposed global strategies on food producers.

Other Nuffield Scholars within the MyFarm family include Andrew Watters (CEO), David Eade (Analyst) and Mat Hocken (Syndicate GP Chair). MyFarm is also lucky to have Julian Raine, a 1997 Nuffield Scholar as an independent Director on one of the MyFarm syndicates. With the Nuffield promise to uncover global vision, leadership, and innovation, it is no wonder so many MyFarmers’ have taken this opportunity to add to their repertoire of education and knowledge.

Congratulations Rachel, you are an excellent example of the MyFarm value; great people doing exceptional things.

Investment Diversification for Farmers - why act now?

New Zealand farmers are no strangers to risk, with every season bringing its own set of challenges: milk payout swings, weather extremes, rising input costs, and regulatory changes, just to name a few. For decades, the strategy has been simple: own more land, milk more cows or run more cattle, and ride out the cycles. However, in the current climate, depending exclusively on dairy or sheep and beef farming leaves families vulnerable to broad, industry-wide risks that remain outside the control of even the most skilled producers.
