Warren Parker, Chair of Pāmu and Forestry Ministerial Advisory Group, joined us to lead a broad discussion on some of the issues facing New Zealand from a climate and forestry perspective.
Warren shares his thoughts on permanent regenerative forestry and the important role it has to play in both sequestering carbon and improving bio-diversity with careful site selection and pest control critical components for success.
With a move to a fibre-based economy (vs petroleum chemical based) this will lead to an increased demand for timber and wood by-products: from bio-mass, to forming the basis of replacements, to steel and concrete.
Although a controversial topic among some, planting trees doesn’t need to take from our sheep and beef farming, it can be complimentary for land owner income and for climate change mitigation.
